After moving into a new beach apartment in the summer of 2014, I decided to make a conscious effort with the interior design. I have always leaned towards clean and simple design styles so naturally I envisioned the setup of my new spot as neutral and earthy. Minimalistic without sacrificing function. I challenged myself to keep the floor space clear of floor lamps and other furnishings and decor and instead use the wall and ceiling space. I felt that adding a vertical wall plant or two could be a clean and controlled way to add natural color and decided to try and build my own. After google surfing wall planter systems, many of the designs I stumbled upon seemed controlled, deliberate, and intimidating. Others I found seemed a bit more achievable and economical. I used them as reference for my project and tried to keep my expectations reasonable. Some months later, my planters are constructed planted and installed.
